Penguins!

January 20th is "Penguin Awareness Day".  To celebrate and increase awareness our children's Do It Yourself table this month will focus on these wonderful southern hemisphere birds!

We have five activities you can do anytime you visit the library this month.
1.  Label the parts of a penguin
2.  Do a penguin word search or maze
3.  Read or look at a book about penguin
4.  Guess how many days it takes an Emperor Penguin egg to hatch
5.  Make your own penguin that tells about you!

Children have the option of making their penguin according to the "glyph"
Boy:  Blue Hat
Girl: Red Hat
6 years old or younger: Orange feet
7 years old or older: Yellow feet
Like to eat fish: Orange beak
Don't like to eat fish: Yellow beak
Favorite season is winter: Dark blue eyes
Favorite season is spring: Green eyes
Favorite season is summer: Light blue eyes
Favorite season is fall: Brown eyes
Have been ice skating: Flippers up

What can you tell about me from my penguin glyph above?

Your penguin can be hung up on our Antarctica bulletin board or you can take your penguin home.
Penguins from just the first day!

We hope you will stop by the DIY table behind the children's computers!  Remember to fill out a drawing slip each time you participate for a chance to win a prize!
