V and X are for...

OK...now I am running out of time to finish up the alphabet before storytime ends.  But to tell the truth I'm glad I had an excuse to combine two difficult letters!  I do not try to do "xylophone" for x because it doesn't make the /x/ sound, so instead I use words with the x sound--exit, box, fox.

The Soup is Boiling Up!
(sung to: The Farmer in the Dell)

The soup is boiling up,
The soup is boiling up,
Stir slow, around we go
The soup is boiling up!

First we add the ___________
First we add the ___________
Stir slow, around we go,
The soup is boiling up!
I use a variety of vegetable cut outs that the children add to the big Halloween cauldron--and I stir with a long wooden spoon.  Vegetables include:  carrots, tomatoes, potatoes, peppers, onion, beans, and peas.  Often several children get the same kind of vegetable.  Make sure to let the kids "taste" the soup when it is done!

Little Bo Peep
Little Bo Peep has lost her sheep
And doesn't know where to find them.
Leave them alone and they'll come home
Wagging their tails behind them.
